Reform-minded police professional with more than 34 years of law enforcement experience. Began his law enforcement career with the Alexandria (Virginia) Police Department, where he served for nearly 27 years and rose to the rank of Deputy Chief.  In 2014, became the Chief of Police for the Huntersville (North Carolina) Police Department, serving there for nearly five years. Most recently, served as the Chief of the Athens-Clark County (Georgia) Police Department.  Extensive applied experience addressing issues such as violent crime, criminal/street gangs, major drug organizations, employee morale, and labor group relations.  Nationally and internationally recognized for his expertise in community policing and criminal justice system reform. He obtained his Master’s degree in Business Management from Johns Hopkins University.  He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and of the PERF Senior Management Institute for Police.  His professional affiliations include NOBLE, IACP, PERF, and the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
